This document explains how the Advanced Route Map in FieldAx displays Assigned Jobs, Nearby (unassigned) Jobs, and Nearby Inventory / Trunk Locations, and lists the exact pre-configuration steps required for the map to work correctly. Use this for publishing in the FieldAx Help Site.
Overview #
The Advanced Route Map provides a single view showing:
- Jobs assigned to a service engineer
- Nearby jobs that are not assigned to the engineer but are on/near the travel path
- Nearby inventory/trunk locations relevant to the engineer’s route
Important: The Route Map relies on location addresses stored on the customer Account and on Location (trunk/inventory) records. There is no requirement for a Service Engineer account shipping address or for storing addresses directly on the Job record.
Pre-Configuration (Required — must be completed before using Route Map) #
- Account (Customer) must have a valid address
- The Job must be linked to a customer Account via the Account lookup on the Job record.
- That Account must have a valid Shipping address (Street, City, State, Postal Code, and Country).
- The Route Map uses the Account address to represent the Job location on the map.
- Trunk / Inventory Location record must have a valid address
- Each Trunk or Inventory Location record that you want to appear on the map must include a complete physical address.
- The Route Map uses these Location addresses to show nearby inventory stops and to include them in route calculations.
Summary: Only three things are required:
(A) Job linked to an Account with an address
(B) Location records (trunks/inventory) with addresses. No Job-address field or engineer account address is required.
(C) Nearby jobs will be filtered to display only those belonging to the same region as the Service Engineer.
Step-by-step Setup (Pre-check and Data Preparation) #
Step 1 — Verify Account Address
- Open the Job record in Salesforce.
- Confirm the Account lookup has the correct customer Account selected.
- Open that Account record.
- Check the Shipping address fields and ensure:
- Street, City, State, Postal Code, Country are filled.
- Address is correct and mappable.
- Save any changes.
If the Account has no address, add a valid address and save. The Job will inherit this location on the map.
Step 2 — Verify Location / Trunk Addresses
- Navigate to Location records in Salesforce.
- Open each trunk/inventory record you want included on the map.
- Ensure the record contains a complete physical address.
- Save any changes.
If the Location record lacks an address, it will not appear on the map and cannot be considered for route planning.
Step 3: View the Route Map in Dispatch Board
- Navigate to the Dispatch Board in FieldAx.
- Select the service engineer whose route you want to view.
- Click the Map tab to open the Route Map view.
- The map will now display:
- Assigned Job Locations
-
- Jobs already assigned to the service engineer.
- On-the-Way Job Locations
-
- Additional job locations that fall naturally along the engineer’s route, even if they’re not assigned to them.
- Inventory Locations
-
- Nearby stock or trunk inventory locations relevant to the engineer’s travel path.
Result #
The service engineer can now view a fully optimized route that includes:
- Primary assigned jobs
- Additional opportunities along the way
- Nearest inventory points
This helps minimize travel time and improve field efficiency.
